Electricity Learning

Something becomes charged when it is rubbed together with negative and positive electrons. Which most materials have, all you have to do is rub two types of materials together. For example a plastic rod and silk, or your shoes against sided against a carpet or you’re socks.

An Ion is a positively charged atom, because for an atom to become an Ion you have to take away the negative electrons from the atom to create an electron.

The atom is arranges like so, when you have electrons and protons you can create and atom. Electrons and protons for the mot part balance themselves out making the nucleolus of the atom. Making the atom neutral charge meaning it is just right in charge.

When something is polarized it means that it is only picking up the positive electrons in the atom, repelling the negative ones. It also means it can pick up negative electrons better than positive ones. For example when you negatively charge a rubber comb it will pick up bits of paper because it is positively charged and the paper bits are negatively charged.

Insulators are materials that are electrically charged like rubber; glass and plastic. It means that charge can be rubbed of their surfaces and tends to stick to other materials and won’t rub off. Conductors are materials like copper; silver and aluminum were these charged objects can roam free off or on the materials.

When items are electrically attracted it means that the positive material is attracted to the negative charge. So it comes together but when it is negative against negative it is repelled because they won’t come together. Opposites attract and negatives repel, this applies to electrons.

When a balloon is negatively charged it is going to attract to positive pieces or even neutral pieces. When a balloon is negative it can attract to neutral pieces because there might be too much of the positive pieces lingering in the neutral ones. So if a balloon is negatively charged it will pick up the positive pieces because it is attracted to them more than the negative ones. It’s like pulling a rope with a team on each side same amount of people just more positive people than negative ones. So the balloon takes those positive ones and adds them to his team taking down the other side and those pieces hang on to the positive pieces also attracting to the balloon.

An electric field is a field usually around the atoms and electrons. Think about it like this is three people around you are holding on to a positive charge and another three are holding on to a negative charge. And you are the only one holding a negative charge than those atoms around you are going to act on you’re negative charge. You are going to attract to the positive charge, making around all the atoms around you an electronic field.

Electronic potential energy is measured in volts which are joules per colomb. So one volt is equal to one joule per colomb. Potential energy is when work is applied to a charge we call it potential energy and even have a equation to measure it in. Which is potential equal to potential energy divided by the charge.

Van De Graff Expierience

When bubbles were blown at the Van De Graff you could also see webs, like if something was linking the bubbles once they were blown out. Also the bubbles would stick to you they would'nt pop. When we formed a human chain around the Van De Graff with the end of the chain people touching the Van De Graff. Outside people could shock the people inside the chain. It was intresting because I thought it was the other way around, were the people inside the chain would shock the people outside the chain. When there was one napkin on top if the Van De Graff the napkin flew off once the Van De Graff was on. It fisrt looked like it was trying to get blown off, but then it flew in a way because it quickly got taken off the Van De Graff. When on the contrary there was many, none of them really cam off. When there were paper strips taped on the Van De Graff, it was like hair were it would stick up. When the machine was energized and Paul placed the cheerios on the Van De Graff, the cheerios flew off in diffrent ways almost looking like a waterfall of cheerios. This happened because of electricity that was going on with all the materials there were, including the human chain.

Electricity Learning

During station one what you had to do was take a balloon that was already blown up and rub it against your hair. Then there were pieces of paper that you would but the balloon in after you had rubbed it against your hair. During station two you had to have two pieces of tape that had to be ten inches long. You had to stick tem to the table next to each other and then quickly take them of and hold them closely next to each other after they had been taken off the table. During this experiment we had one piece longer than the other but it still worked. All that happened was that the tape repelled against each other, as much as you tried to get them together it wouldn’t work. In station three you had two pieces of tape that had to be ten inches long as well but you had to tape them to the table on top of each other. Once you took them apart they would attract to each other. When you tried to take them apart they would still be attracted to each other. My hypothesis is that there was some sort of electricity concept that was going on with each experiment.

Dialectical Journal

Quote: "Only because I prefer a positive to a negative. In this game that we are playing, we can not win. Some kinds of failure are better than other kinds, that's all"

Response: Winston when telling/ saying this to Julia. He is trying to tell her that hope for what they do and think is not only dangerous but is a failure. Winston is just trying to be positive but the quote if you just think about it is negative. In a way it is like Winston doesn't want Julia or anyone else to get hurt.

Letter to Jingzhi

I think that in this situation that you went through I feel like you are a hero to your family and some Chinese people. You really showed the world with this article that girls and women can be hero's too. I admire that you have done so much for your family; by just being in a committee/ congress to be a voice to those were you live and the places were people know you really said something about you and who you are. Going through such a painful difficult time with your family- especially your children- to me it is very recognizable and heroic to stand up for your family; because you did not just stand your point during a group meeting you did this for your country and were you live. You did this to be a voice to people that could be unknown and you did it because you care. I really do admire you and when I grow up will definitely tell people that girls and women and anyone who's quite can be something in this world to save people they car about.

MUN Reflection

I enjoyed MUN and had a lot of fun, I liked this idea but I felt like I was very scared to do this. I thought that I was going to fail because I am a very shy speaker, but I had very awesome Chairs. They were just so much fun and they were awesome; this was probably the best experience but I really did like it. I think that people that really have the passion to do MUN and really like writing resolutions and speaking in front of people and winning or getting prizes. Then I have to say go for it have fun; be excited have a butt kicking resolution and speech. I if was ever to do this again I would hope that the teachers wouldn’t scare me as much, but that of course do make this special/ important. But all in all this was on of the best activities I have ever done; I thank the teachers for it too.

Qi- Gong Class

Today we had a class on qi-gong and it was pretty fun. I really liked this activity with a karate instructor he started qi-gong at around 11 years old and know he has fully developed qi-gong, he is really good at it. We all got to experience a different culture and understand another way of healing with our bodies/ another way of fitness with the body and becoming one with your inner chi. Chi is your energy and the instructor told us that your chi is something powerful, because once your get to master this your can move the chi around your body and feel the different places your body has that hurts. For example once you are able to move it around your can direct your energy/ chi ball you make to that certain place it hurts and then have it heal that. I enjoyed this, some people actually got to feel their chi ball and also got to move it and understand it/ play with it. Which was cool because they were amazed at it, and other's of us were just having fun an excited at how our bodies can stand for such a long time. Also how our hands and arms can stay in the same place for so long, also the pain after a while because of it staying there for so long. But I really thought this was fun, I mean we had so much fun. At least I did I really did enjoy this, and it was completely insanely awesome.
In conclusion I really liked this workshop it was an entire new experience and so much fun for me. Although most of it was about being quite and peaceful and in the end there was meditation time. A lot of people actually meditated got in tact with there inner selves while trying to find their chi. I really liked this and I hope we have as much fun as we had at the Karate Academy, so we can enjoy this in our class again, but with Ms. Golub as our instructor.
